For Parents
As fellow parents, we make it our top priority to ensure Miya: Before & After is a safe, fun and stimulating environment for your children. We encourage parents to be actively involved in their children's online activity - both to help ensure they practice prudent online behavior, and because it can be a fun activity to do together.
A big part of what makes the Miya: Before & After site fun is the chance for players to interact with their friends. To help ensure that online interactions between players are safe, we take the following measures to protect user privacy:
User Education - By highlighting our Privacy Policy http://www.miyamackenzie.com/privacy and reminding users through the registration process about the importance of privacy, we help teach our users not to divulge personal information online.
Minimal Data Collection - We require users to provide very little information to create an account: a user name (or "stage name"), password, parent's email address (for account verification and maintenance, e.g. password resetting), and birthdate (to verify age). Users and parents can opt in to receive marketing information such as newsletters and contests via email, Facebook, Twitter or other media. Users and parents may also optionally provide the email addresses of friends (or friends' parents) they wish to invite to the game with only their first name (so the recipient knows who the email was from). This information is used only for the purpose of sending a one-time email invite. The sender's first name and the recipient's email address are deleted from our records after the message is sent.
Community Reporting and Blocking - Any inappropriate action by another user can be immediately reported and blocked by other users. These community safety tools help ensure swift and decisive action on any inappropriate user misbehavior. When a user blocks or reports another player, we do not ask for any personal information about either party. Players may simply click on the offending player and then click "Block" or "Report." By blocking a player, both user accounts become invisible to each other. To unblock a player, please contact Customer Support http://miyamackenzie.assistly.com/.
User Invitations - One of the ways we help minimize bad actors in the Miya: Before & After game is by encouraging users to join via invitation. In addition to managing the growth of the community, this policy makes it more likely that your child is connected to his or her real-world friends in the game, making the game more safe and fun.
Real-Time Filtering - All user-to-user communications are sent through an advanced real-time filtering technology from a company called Crisp Thinking, one of the leading content filtering solutions. This technology is designed to block profanity and other inappropriate content, and limits the word choice in an effort to mitigate any attempt to share personal information within the game. This technology can also identify harassing user behavior which can then be escalated to a human moderator.
Live Moderation - Community moderators are frequently monitoring the site, and review and respond to all escalated cases (either reported by players or identified by our real-time filtering system). Inappropriate actions result in the removal of player accounts and, if warranted, reporting to law enforcement.
Parental Controls - Parents always have control of their child's account and may request the deletion of their child's account by contacting Customer Support by email at support@miyamackenzie.com or online at http://miyamackenzie.assistly.com/.
Third-Party Verification - The Miya: Before & After game and Spitball Entertainment, Inc. work closely with Privo http://www.privo.com/services.htm, one of the leading organizations for ensuring online privacy, to impartially audit our site, policies, data retention, and other practices to verify compliance with the federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act(COPPA) http://www.coppa.org/
We appreciate your concern and involvement in your child's online experience. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's use of the Miya: Before & After site, please contact Customer Support by email at support@miyamackenzie.com or online at http://miyamackenzie.assistly.com/.
